As the first female CEO of SLTX’s 30-year history, Norma Essary has been instrumental in re-establishing a national presence in the excess and surplus lines (E&S) wholesale insurance industry.  She has been part of a paradigm shift of forward-thinking executive leaders in the industry developing new organizational strategies to include operational change, talent management and technological disruptions already impacting the entire industry. Serving as a board of director in the SE Division, Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) and a Legislative Committee member for Wholesale & Specialty Insurance Association (WSIA), Norma is committed to the locally and nationally to the progress of surplus lines insurance. 

Prior to SLTX, she spent 13 years overseeing enterprise risk management as the VP, Risk Management, for Dallas/FW International Airport, 4th busiest airport in the world, and was considered the highest-ranking Latina female in the airline risk management industry worldwide. Her achievements included a $3.5 B construction-specific ROCIP, onsite medical clinic, and self-funded WC claims program, integrated disability, litigation management, and safety compliance programs. 

Norma holds a BBA from Texas State University and an MBA from Texas Woman’s University, and is accredited as a CPCU and ARM. 

She was recently listed by Insurance Business America as one of North America’s “2017 Elite Women in Insurance” who have shattered the industry’s glass ceiling.  Other notable highlights include being named by D CEO Magazine as a “Top Risk Management” professional, being honored by the Dallas Business Journal “Women in Business Awards”, and being previously selected by the Texas Public Risk & Insurance Management Association (TX PRIMA) as the “Top Risk Manager” for the state of Texas.
