Senior Executive in Financial Services


Robin F. Lenna is a senior executive in financial services with expertise in retirement, structured risk and financial products, investments and risk management. Robin was executive vice president of MetLife’s Retirement and Income Solutions business from 2006-2018, with total annual sales of $20 billion and assets of $196 billion. She also served as chairman, president & CEO of General American Life Insurance Company and Metropolitan Tower Life Insurance Company from 2016-2018. Robin led the work to merge these two entities, establishing a new 50-state domiciled legal entity.

Robin’s experience includes annuity and investment products for defined contribution plans, de-risking solutions for defined benefit pension plans (known as pension risk transfer or PRT), structured settlements, workplace digital financial wellness solutions, corporate and bank-owned life insurance, and funding for employee benefit liabilities. In her role as head of MetLife’s Retirement and Income Solutions, Robin led sales, marketing, expansion strategies, underwriting, product development and client service.

Among other accomplishments, Robin led the startup of MetLife’s bulk annuity pension business in the U.K. and served as its chairman from 2007 until the business was sold to Rothesay Life in 2014. She initiated and led the Financial Wellness initiative, MetLife’s first digital product for the workforce channel that launched in 2018. During 2016-2017, she played a key role in being awarded MetLife’s first-ever J.D. Powers’ certification for outstanding customer service.

Robin joined MetLife in 2004 as senior vice president and chief risk officer. She reported to the CFO and board risk committee and represented the Company to bank and insurance regulators and rating agencies. Prior to joining MetLife, Robin was head of structured finance at FleetBoston (now Bank of America) from 2002 to 2004. Previously, she had an 18-year career with Citigroup in roles that included global capital markets, client relationship management, corporate debt restructuring and turnarounds, and risk management.

Robin was named P&L Executive of the Year by National Association of Female Executives (NAFE) in 2012 for her career success and concerted efforts to move more women into P&L positions. She was selected to be on the 2012 list of Women in Insurance Leadership by Insurance Networking News.

Robin has served on numerous industry boards, including the LIMRA LOMA Secure Retirement Institute, the Employee Benefit Research Institute, and the advisory board for the Pension Research Council of The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. She represented MetLife and was co-chair of the American Council of Life Insurers’ Committee on Retirement Security. She is a private pilot with land and seaplane ratings. She has a B.A. with honors from Swarthmore College and an M.B.A. in finance from Temple University.
