Vice President, Senior Account Executive, Woodruff Sawyer
Shannell is currently Vice President, Senior Account Executive at Woodruff Sawyer (WS). Shannell has over 20 years of experience is Risk Management, P&C and Management Liability risk mitigation experience that she leverages to help public and IPO prospect companies minimize risk and maximize opportunity. Shannell is also the Chair of WS’s DEI Council where she has led efforts to enhance DEI, create a framework of Employee Resource Groups, launched a DEI newsletter and an engaging speaker series entitled WS Changing Our World –One conversation at a time -sparking brave and courageous conversations with employees, leaders, clients, and external speakers.Shannell is the former director of risk management for McKesson Corporation, a Fortune 5 global company at the time. In that role, she worked to mitigate risk for the enterprise through insurance education, contract negotiations, and managing global risks. She worked closely with insurance advisors, in-house counsel, M&A due diligence teams and business units domestically and internationally. She also served as the Chair of the Board for ASPIRE SFBA, McKesson’s African American Employee Resource Group, and received ASPIRE’s Excellence in Leadership Award in recognition for her commitment to making a difference at McKesson and in the community. Prior to joining McKesson, Shannell was a managing director at NASDAQ and its then acquired entity, Carpenter Moore, performing as a senior executive liability broker for public and private entities domestically and in Canada, Europe, and Asia.
Shannell holds multiple graduate degrees in law and business with a Juris Doctor, Master of Laws in International legal studies and a MBA from Golden Gate University Schools of Law and Age no School of Business, respectively. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in risk management and insurance from Georgia State University. She is passionate about diversity, equity, and inclusion, developing strong teams, servicing clients and the community. Shannell enjoys engaging in speaking opportunities to empower underrepresented groups and women. Shannell served as a panelist on the First Annual Empowerment Forum hosted by the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. Oakland Bay Area Chapter at its annual Madam C.J. Walker fundraiser event. Shannell was recently featured on the Spot On Insurance Podcast episode 217:Establishing Workplace Diversity, Equity Insurance. Shannell has been instrumental in leading the effort that resulted in Woodruff Sawyer’s recent Finalist recognition by Business Insurance’s 2021 Diversity Initiative of the Year Award.
